Use a NAS Drive with Time Machine

If you've tried, out-of-the-box Time Machine included with the Leopard OS will not allow backups to a NAS drive.

Apple's recent announcement of a wireless NAS that will work is puzzling since Time Machine doesn't seem to work with NAS.

To use a NAS in Time Machine open terminal and enter the following and press enter:

defaults write com.apple.systempreferences TMShowUnsupportedNetworkVolumes 1

If you open Time Machine after you apply this hack you will be able to use a NAS with Time Machine.
